Sin has taken root in your life

Welcome to our Sermon

Sin has taken root in your life

Sunday 13th march 2022

Sin has taken root in your life

Romans 7: 19-21

Sin has taken you captive. It has taken root in churches, families, lives, children, finances, work, businesses etc. God is asking you a question using the analogy of a tree. “If you want to uproot a tree, what do you do?” The answer is simple. Remove the roots. We need to remove the roots of sin that have taken root in us. We know the Word but do as per our bodily desires. Such desires will keep on leading you to sin. You become enslaved by your own body instead of you controlling your body. Such becomes a stumbling block in our salvation journey. To the text itself:

“for I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.  So I find this law at work: although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.” [Romans 7: 19-21} NIV

Human beings are innately sinful. After the great fall and man was kicked out of the Garden of Eden, sin took root. Sin thus controls all aspects of our human bodies. On our own, we cannot defeat sin. However, there is a solution in Jesus Christ. When we are in Him, then sin cannot no longer rule over us. The Holy Spirit then takes preeminence and we overcome sin. Accept Jesus and let the Holy Spirit lead you.

What is the call in Spirit?

“Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.” [Romans 1:28} NIV

We are called upon to retain the knowledge of God. To make it our ambition to listen to the Word of God and internalize it. We should not just hear the Word but also live it. We should be haters of inequity. We should flee away from sin. We should be holy for our God is Holy. When we do so, then the power of God works in us and the fruits are manifested in our lives.

Do not be a hypocritical Christian. Have a sin free week in Jesus name. Amen.
